Restore Strong, Steady Water Pressure With a New Pump

Εύρος τιμής:80 € – 120 €

Many Cyprus homes run on a pressure pump that pushes water from a tank to the taps. When the pump itself wears out, showers drop to a trickle, it starts humming or tripping the power, and you notice quickly. Post the job on FixNow with a photo of the pump label, the controller and the tank it draws from.

  • Pump sized to floors and outlets
  • Pressure vessel pre-charge checked
  • Pressure switch or controller set
  • Dry-run protection for empty tanks
  • Anti-vibration mounts reduce noise
  • Every outlet tested after fitting

How your pump system works

Water is stored in a roof tank, a ground tank or an underground reservoir, which fills from the mains whenever supply is on. The pump draws from it and pushes water into the house pipes. A pressure switch or electronic controller starts the pump when you open a tap and stops it when pressure builds back up. Many systems also have a pressure vessel, a small tank with an air bladder inside, which smooths this out so the pump doesn't start for every glass of water. A non-return valve stops water flowing back when the pump stops.

Any of these parts can fail, and some look like a pump fault when they aren't. A good plumber checks them before deciding the pump needs replacing.

Signs the pump itself is finished

  • A grinding or screeching noise from worn bearings.
  • Water dripping from the pump body, usually a failed mechanical seal.
  • A burning smell or a motor too hot to touch.
  • The breaker trips whenever it starts.
  • It runs, but pressure stays low even with the tank full and filters clean.

The replacement visit

The power is isolated and the valves either side of the pump closed. The old pump is disconnected and lifted out, and the new one goes on a firm, level base, ideally on rubber mounts to cut vibration noise. Pipe connections are remade with new fittings where the old ones are scaled or corroded. The pump is primed with water, which is especially important on suction lifts from a ground tank, before it's started for the first time.

Then the plumber sets the pressures. They check the pre-charge in the pressure vessel with a tyre gauge and adjust it to suit the cut-in pressure, and test the system by running taps on every floor.

Pumps outdoors

Pumps on roofs or in yards get the full force of summer heat, plus dust and rain in winter. A ventilated cover helps the motor and electrics last longer. If yours sits in the open, ask about protecting the new one.

Γιατί να επιλέξετε αυτή την υπηρεσία

Correct Sizing

An undersized pump struggles upstairs, while an oversized one cycles and wears quickly. Professionals match the pump to your building height and number of bathrooms.

Root Cause Checked

Constant cycling is often a failed pressure vessel, not the pump. A proper assessment avoids replacing parts that are still working well.

Quieter Options

Variable-speed and enclosed pumps run more quietly, which is useful where the pump sits near bedrooms or in a shared apartment plant area.

Protected Payment

The agreed price is held by FixNow until you confirm the new pump delivers steady pressure, and cancelling before work begins is fully refunded.

Συχνές ερωτήσεις

Why does my pressure pump keep switching on and off?
Frequent short cycling is usually caused by a pressure vessel that has lost its air charge or has a burst membrane, a faulty pressure switch or a small leak somewhere in the system. Checking these first can avoid an unnecessary pump replacement.
What size pump do I need?
It depends on the number of floors, bathrooms and outlets used at once, the tank position and the pipe sizes. A professional works out the flow and head required and recommends a suitable model, rather than simply copying the old pump's rating.
How long does a pump replacement take?
Replacing a pump in the same position with similar connections typically takes a few hours. Adding a new pressure vessel or controller, changing pipework or relocating the pump to reduce noise can take longer. Photos of the pump area help professionals estimate the time accurately.
Does a pressure pump need maintenance?
Yes. Check the vessel pre-charge yearly, keep the pump area ventilated and free of dust, clean any inlet strainer and make sure the tank never runs dry. Ask the installer for simple aftercare advice for your specific model.
Is a variable-speed pump worth it?
Variable-speed pumps adjust their output to demand, giving steadier pressure, quieter running and often lower electricity use. They usually cost more upfront, and they suit larger homes or households where several showers are used at the same time.
